Listening to your body is very important in general, but when it comes to listening to your body during any kind of fitness training, it is completely different!
When I am training, I like to close my eyes and really focus in on my body; how it's moving, how the movement is affecting my body, what its working, etc.
One practice that can help you learn specific ways to listen to your body is meditation. Meditation is great thing to do in your down time. There are many benefits to meditation:
- Creating greater control
- Building skills to manage stress and anxiety
- Increasing self-awareness
- Reduction of negative emotions
- Increasing creativity and imagination
- Increasing patience and tolerance
While meditating, it is important to scan your body.
Wanting to learn about your body helps you listen to it better.
- If someone was having a conversation with you, they wouldn't want to keep talking if you weren't listening. Therefore, treat your body the same way.
If something strange is going on, or you feel different than normal, try and figure out what is going on. Write down what you are feeling to compare the next time you feel this way. A way to help with this, is to keep a journal on hand all the time.
